Lighting Support Scheme for SMEs to save up to 60% on energy costs

The Lighting Support Scheme announced on Monday 8th April by the Minister for Communications, Climate, Action and Environment, Richard Bruton T.D will cover 30% of the cost of lighting upgrade work and can help save up to 60% on lighting energy costs for small and medium-sizes businesses who wish to invest in energy efficient lighting.

The grant, administered by the Sustainable Energy Authority of Ireland (SEAI), allows for standard lighting sources to be replaced with LED lights. Lighting is a significant cost for many SMEs and is the second highest cost for many businesses after staff costs. New developments in lighting technology, particularly Light Emitting Diode (LED) technology, means that businesses can reduce their lighting bills by up to 60% or more.

Daniel Ring, MD at Noel Lawler Green Energy Solutions comments, “The grant is invaluable to SME’s as it will result in money savings to business costs and protects against the inevitable price rise from energy suppliers. The scheme covers replacing the existing fittings with new LED fittings, with the option also for additional lighting control. It covers the supply and installation of the new lighting and any equipment associated with the installation, for example hoists and scaffolding towers. The average ROI is 1 to 2 years.

Funding is available on a first come first served basis so early application is strongly advised. The grant is available until the 20th May 2019 and in the event of all scheme funds of €2million being allocated prior to the closing date the scheme will automatically close. This is the last year for the scheme which is documentation heavy, both on the application and completion stages. Green Energy Solutions will remove the paperwork hassle as part of our consultancy.
