Glasson House Hotel and Golf Club Lighting Upgrade

Green Energy Solutions recently completed a lighting upgrade in the Glasson House Hotel and Golf Club. This was made possible through the award of SEAI’s Smart Lighting Pilot Scheme which would see SMEs save up to 60% on the replacement of lights in the building when upgraded to energy efficient LEDs. The funding covered up to 40% of the cost of replacing existing lighting and replacement lighting had to be registered on the Triple E register. The further 20% came as a result of energy credits received for completing the upgrade.

The Glasson Hotel and Golf Club took advantage of this grant from SEAI and underwent a huge facelift. The works were completed on October 25th and at no stage during the upgrade did the hotel need to shut down to facilitate works. Energy savings predicted based on the current performance of the new lights are expected to be as high as 132,878 kWh which equates to approximately €17,000 per annum with a payback of almost 2 years.

The pilot lighting scheme was introduced in mid-2017. Targeted sectors for the scheme included Fitness Centres, Retailers (general and food) Small Hotels / Large B&Bs, Pharmacies, Nursing Homes and Jewellers but other businesses may also be considered on application. Although the scheme is currently closed, it is expected to be re-opened in 2018 and accepting new applications.

The challenge in this project was the deadline by which works had to be completed in order to be eligible for this grant. This gave Green Energy Solutions a short period of time to survey the building, procure new LED lighting, get approval for the grant and carry out the installation. The project was delivered on time and on budget. The client was very pleased with the outcome of the installation.
